Hundreds of scientific publications from IODE Member states were made accessible through the IODE OceanDocs online repository of marine and oceanographic publications making subject specialty oceanographic publications freely and openly available and fostering capacity building internationally. IOC, IODE s affiliation with the Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries Abstracts (Secretariat FAO), fosters marine information networking and grant funding for information projects, including digitization of unique documents. Through the IODE Marine Information professionals and Invited Experts efforts policy documents, strategic plans, communication documents were produced to support the work of IOC, IODE. Advice was given to other IODE Projects on vocabularies, ontologies and metadata. Informal mentoring was extended to marine information professionals of the IODE member states individually and through the IODE ODIN networks in various geographical areas of the world. Also, new or improved online accessible systems such as the OceanKnowledge Platform Project, OceanData Practices, OpenScience Directory, OceanExpert were developed to link IODE sources of information, projects and people together. The Chair of GEMIM was a member of the IODE Restructure Working Group to ensure that the role of marine information professionals is retained and strengthened in the future structure of IODE. 15.
