Participation
The Side event organized by IOC in collaboration with the UN Division on Ocean Affairs and the Law of the Sea (DOALOS), will focus on the Agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea on the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Marine Biological Diversity of Areas beyond National Jurisdiction (BBNJ Agreement) adopted by UN Member States in 2023. The event will provide latest update regarding the process of entry into force of the Agreement, including though the work of the UNGA Preparatory Commission established in 2024, the scientific and technical dimension of the agreement what may relate to the work of IOC, and potential contribution of IOC in support of the agreement in the area of science, observation and data, capacity development and the transfer of marine technology.
