To what extent fish behaviour, in time and space, is the result of a never ending process of optimisation of the energetic relationships linking the animal to its ecosystem ? My main interrest concerns the directive effect of environmental parameters (temperature, salinity oxygen) on fish behaviour and metabolism. Using acoustic telemetry I am evaluating the energetic constraints associated with life in coastal environments and then analysing the strategy followed by free swimming fish. This program involves both experiments in controled conditions (respirometer, mesocosm) and 'open ocean' tracking. The modelling of fish energetic expenditure as a function of the environmental conditions allows me to describe the various driving belts which linkenvironment, metabolism and behaviour.
