Activities
As Director of the Regional Observatory for Research on Environment and Climate (ORREC), I provide strategic leadership for Djibouti's national environmental research, scientific innovation, and laboratory development. My responsibilities encompass the planning, coordination, and implementation of multidisciplinary research programmes addressing climate change, water resources, environmental pollution, food safety, biodiversity, and marine ecosystems. I oversee advanced analytical laboratories, ensuring compliance with international quality standards such as ISO/IEC 17025 while promoting the adoption of cutting-edge analytical and isotopic techniques. I coordinate national and international research projects funded by organizations including the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), strengthening scientific capacity through infrastructure development, technology transfer, and human resource training. My role also includes managing environmental monitoring programmes covering air quality, groundwater, coastal ecosystems, radiation, and climate observations, and translating scientific evidence into policy recommendations that support sustainable development and national decision-making. In addition, I represent ORREC in regional and international scientific networks, establish strategic partnerships with universities and research institutions, and secure competitive funding for research and innovation. I supervise multidisciplinary teams, mentor young researchers, oversee institutional planning and communication, and ensure that ORREC serves as a national centre of excellence, providing scientific expertise, laboratory services, and evidence-based solutions to address Djibouti's environmental and climate challenges while contributing to regional resilience and sustainable development.
