Activities
María Liste is a marine scientist with more than 15 years of experience in coastal oceanography, numerical modelling and operational coastal ocean prediction. Her expertise focuses on the development, implementation and validation of high-resolution coastal ocean modelling systems, with particular emphasis on coupled wave-current-sediment dynamics, coastal hazards under present and future climate conditions, and the transport of pollutants in complex coastal environments.
She develops and applies fully coupled three-dimensional modelling systems to investigate multi-scale coastal processes, integrating ocean circulation, waves, tides, sediment dynamics and pollutant dispersion. Her work supports the assessment of storm-driven flooding and erosion, wave-current interactions, coastal circulation, water renewal, and particulate transport under severe and extreme conditions. She has strong expertise in model adaptation to complex coastal domains, model skill assessment, computational efficiency and deployment in high-performance computing environments.
Her international research career has included positions at leading universities and research centres across Europe and North America. At UPC-BarcelonaTech, her work focuses on advanced coastal ocean prediction and marine modelling applications. She also has teaching and supervision experience in coastal engineering, numerical ocean modelling and marine environmental applications. María holds a PhD in Water and Environmental Sciences from the Universidad de Cantabria, awarded cum laude, and received the Repsol Foundation Award in 2010.
