Marta Correia is a marine
biologist with a master’s degree in Aquatic Biological Resources. She is a key
member of CIIMAR’s Image, Communication and Outreach team, where she
coordinates CIIMAR’s Educational Programme. Her main interests lie in science
communication and outreach, particularly in relation to Ocean Literacy
projects. She has developed a range of materials and hands-on activities in the
fields of marine and environmental sciences. She has experience in implementing
and evaluating science communication programmes, particularly those related to
environmental and marine education. She has organised and coordinated various
teacher training initiatives. She has collaborated on various projects,
including “CIIMAR at School”, “OceanLab”, “SeaChange”, “MALIA” and “NetTag”,
which are particularly aimed at the school community and seek to enhance
scientific literacy – and ocean literacy in particular – by promoting hands-on
learning, ocean conservation and a curiosity about marine and environmental
sciences.
