Activities
Current activities:
- C-N-P stoichiometry of the oceanic biological pump and their role as feedback processes in the ocean-atmosphere climate system
- Phosphate cycle, with emphasis on processes at pelagic oxic-anoxic boundaries
- Use of oxygen as tracer to constrain large scale ocean biogeochemistry models
- Modelling the CaCO3 cycle in the ocean
Skills
Synopsis of current research interests:
I am a biological oceanographer working since 10+ years in the field of ocean ecosystem studies and biogeochemistry. I have been working for several years as an sea-going 'observationalist'. My current focus is on biogeochemical modelling and meta-analysis of large datasets. My regional focus has been the pelagic North Atlantic.
Specific reasearch interests:

Former research interests:
- Dynamics of phytoplankton development during winter/spring in the North Atlantic (until 2004)
- Particle flux studies: field experiments with long term moorings , compilation of basin scale datasets, & development of basic scale interpolation & flux estimates (until 2002)
- Dynamics of dissolved organic carbon and nitrogen in the North Atlantic (until 2001)
- Carbon flux synthesis (JGOFS North Atlantic Synthesis effort) and editing of synthesis book (Deep-Sea Res. special issue) (until 2001)
