Plankton plays a pivotal role in the ocean for carbone sequestration, ocean health and food security.
As I am expecting broader spatial and longer temporal coverage of plankton by new imaging technologies from current and future surveys and monitoring programs, there are urgent needs for integrating field surveys, laboratory experiments and models, in addition to developing methods for analyzing distributions and process rates of aquatic
organisms. In the future, I will therefore focus on the acquisition and
use of such data to constrain mechanistic models, initially and then
ecosystem models
