1. To conduct research on hydrodynamics of estuarine systems along the Kenyan Coast.
2. To monitor two GLOSS tide guages installed at the ports of Mombasa and Lamu, use the data collected to produce tide predictions for our ports.

Capacity in the area of Physical Oceanography in the WIO region has been fairly enhanced through postgraduate training and regional workshops. There should be deliberate efforts to provide researchers in the region with oceanographic equipments including research vessels to enhance oceanograhic research in the WIO region.
