Be bold and be brave, defend the vulnerable and the weak. Stand up for justice and do what is right even if no one is watching. Growing up in a poor home with no electricity and water connection has taught me valuable life lessons. I was raised by my mother who was a single parent and knew how to appreciate little things in life. My father was a drunk and was someone who couldn't care. I could not even imagine how tough it was for my mother to even have a dream to see her 6 kids finish university-level education, have a nice job, and create a desirable future. What taunts me now is how my mother even managed to support all our dreams of completing our education at the highest level having known that she was only a housemaid with little education. Throughout the years, she stood tall and managed to conquer because she was a fighter. Now when I reflect on these hardships and see how well my siblings are doing so far, I can picture a heart-settling smile on my mother's face although I am still stuck on accepting the fact that we made it through the 8 Mile settlement which was a slum of Port Moresby, the Capital City of Papua New Guinea. I am truly convinced that all along, my mother was my hero and inspiration. Her toughness and commitment to the church and being a faithful Christian were my main inspirations. I realize now that you do not have to look elsewhere to find motivation or inspiration. When you are down or need positive energy to elevate yourself, just take a look at your life's tough experiences. Mine has made me complete university and receive my degree, get the job I always wanted, pursue the career I've always dreamed of, and travel to 5 counties so far.
