Global Vision International (GVI) is a international volunteering organisation that combines sustainable tourism with data collection. Within the inner granitic islands of Seychelles there are two GVI expedition bases; Curieuse Island Marine National Park and Baie Ternay Marine National Park.
The Baie Ternay Marine National Park is located in Cap Ternay, a Marine Protected Area that has a long-running marine research program using citizen-science as its main source of data collection.

The data collected is analysed annually and a report submitted to Seychelles National Parks Authority (SNPA) for them to use in their management of the marine protected areas around the north-west of Mahe.

Additionally, the data collected by GVI’s volunteers is the main contribution from the region to the biannual publication of The Sate of Coral Reefs of The Indian Ocean.
The tourism generated at Cap Ternay is a form of voluntourism, using approximately 30 tourists every month and training them to a good standard of fish, coral or invertebrate species identification before teaching them the standardized survey methods.

All monitoring activities are carried out on the northwest coast of Mahe, including surveys to determine benthic cover, hard coral genera diversity and lifeforms, coral recruitment, reef and commercially important fish density, diversity as well as abundance of invertebrates that are of commercial importance or are ecosystem indicators.
GVI has short, mid and long-term objectives that fit with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This enables us to report on our collaborative impact across the world in a streamlined manner, measuring which UN SDGs we are making a substantial contribution to.
