Centro Ballena Azul (CBA) is a scientifically-driven non-profit based in Valdivia, Chile, born in 2002 out of an urgent passion to reconnect people with the ocean and protect its leviathans—the blue whales. From the Southern Chilean fjords to the deep sea, the team uses cutting-edge research to safeguard these gentle giants and champion marine conservation.

Our mission? To harness applied science in marine mammal conservation—especially whales—as flagship and umbrella species for broader ecosystem protection. Through data‑backed strategies, engagement with communities and stakeholders, environmental education, and advocacy for marine protected areas, CBA is steering our oceans toward a healthier, whale‑friendly future.
