The Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve (GCBR) is a non-profit organisation established in 2011, operating across a 3.2-million-hectare UNESCO-designated biosphere reserve in South Africa. This globally significant landscape supports exceptional biodiversity and rich cultural heritage. As a recognised biosphere reserve, GCBR advances the three core functions of conservation, sustainable development, and research and education. Acting as both convener and implementer, GCBR brings together land users, communities, scientists, and partners to deliver practical, science-based programmes in ecological restoration, water stewardship, and sustainable land management. Guided by the vision “People and Nature Living in Harmony,” GCBR enables collaborative, landscape-scale solutions that strengthen ecosystem health and community resilience.
