Ghana Instinct is a grassroots environmental NGO based in Cape Three Points, Ghana, dedicated to protecting biodiversity through conservation, sustainable living, and community engagement. A core focus of our work is sea turtle conservation, where we protect endangered Olive Ridley, Green, and Leatherback turtles along Ghana’s coastline. Through nightly beach patrols, egg rescue and nursery protection, hatchling monitoring, data collection, and environmental education, we work closely with local communities and youth to reduce threats such as poaching, bycatch, habitat loss, and plastic pollution. Over the years, Ghana Instinct has helped safeguard thousands of turtle eggs while building local stewardship for marine conservation. Beyond sea turtle protection, Ghana Instinct is also contributing to the development and long-term success of the newly established Greater Cape Three Points Marine Protection Area, helping strengthen community-led coastal conservation. In parallel, we are advancing river restoration efforts for a degraded river system that begins in the Cape Three Points Forest Reserve and flows into the Atlantic Ocean, where illegal gold mining (galamsey) has caused severe sedimentation, pollution, and ecological damage. Together, these efforts support a wider vision of restoring the connection between forest, river, and marine ecosystems while creating a stronger future for both biodiversity and local communities.
