Sociedad Ambiente Marino (SAM) is a Puerto Rican non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation, restoration, and scientific research of marine ecosystems.

The major activities performed by SAM include:
  • Coral Reef Restoration: Establishing underwater coral nurseries, growing fragments, and transplanting them to rehabilitate degraded reefs.

  • Climate Risk Analysis: Publishing technical bulletins to track thermal stress and predict coral bleaching events in the Caribbean.
  • Community Education: Hosting public workshops, school presentations, and virtual educational series like Mundo Océano.
  • Environmental Cleanups: Organizing coastal, beach, and underwater diving cleanups to remove marine debris and trash.
  • Ecological Mitigation: Partnering with government and academic entities to manage coastal resilience and monitor dredging impacts.
  • Invasive Species Management: Promoting the fishing and consumption of invasive lionfish to protect native reef balances.
