Activities
The Marine Ecology Laboratory research group was established in April 1998 with the primary objective of investigating the benthic ecology of shallow marine ecosystems, generating knowledge that supports the conservation of marine biodiversity in coastal zones. Our work encompasses a wide range of activities, including monitoring programs, the identification of patterns in marine biodiversity, research on the importance of connectivity among different habitats, and the development of biotechnological solutions to environmental challenges such as biological invasions.
Since 2002, the laboratory has served as the national coordinator of the SeagrassNet Program and has participated in national research networks. In 2003, it coordinated the project "RAP Ilha Grande: A Biodiversity Survey," which aimed to inventory the marine biodiversity of Ilha Grande Bay. In 2006, the laboratory founded the Coral-Sol Project, an initiative dedicated to controlling invasive Tubastraea coral species along the Brazilian coast.
