The Algarve Marine Science Centre, also known by its acronym CCMAR, is one of the leading marine science research centers in Portugal, widely recognized for the excellence of its research at the European level. Its capacity is based on a multidisciplinary team including the areas of marine biology, ecology, oceanography, environmental sciences, biotechnology, fisheries and aquaculture.
Located in southern Portugal, CCMAR is an independent, non-profit research organization within the University of Algarve system, and has public utility status.
We are an institution that leads the advancement of ocean research, developing science and technology to address the major challenges facing society.
