Activities

As the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the R9 Sustainability Alliance Foundation (R9 SAF), I lead initiatives that promote the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of marine and freshwater ecosystems while advancing environmental stewardship and community resilience throughout Barbados and the wider Caribbean. My activities focus on integrating ocean conservation with climate action, sustainable development, environmental education, and community engagement through strategic partnerships with government agencies, academia, the private sector, civil society, and international organizations.

My work includes developing and implementing programmes that support marine biodiversity conservation, watershed protection, coastal ecosystem restoration, pollution prevention, waste reduction, circular economy initiatives, and climate adaptation. I actively promote public awareness of ocean literacy, freshwater resource management, and the importance of healthy ecosystems through educational campaigns, volunteer initiatives, conferences, festivals, and community outreach programmes, including the annual R9 EarthFest sustainability festival.

In addition, I contribute to policy dialogue, stakeholder collaboration, and capacity-building efforts that encourage evidence-based environmental management and the adoption of innovative, nature-based solutions. I advocate for the protection of coral reefs, mangroves, seagrass beds, wetlands, rivers, and coastal habitats while supporting initiatives that strengthen the Blue Economy and enhance ecosystem resilience.

My professional activities are driven by the belief that healthy oceans and freshwater systems are fundamental to sustainable livelihoods, biodiversity conservation, food security, climate resilience, and the long-term prosperity of Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Through leadership, collaboration, education, and practical environmental action, I remain committed to advancing the objectives of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 15 (Life on Land).
