Activities
The Centre de Recherches Océanologiques (CRO) is a National Public Establishment (EPN) for research, holding the status of Public Administrative Establishment of a Scientific and Technological nature. Its mission is to carry out the research necessary for understanding the aquatic environment with a view to its preservation and protection; and to implement rational exploitation and management of natural aquatic resources, whether renewable or non-renewable, living or mineral.
The CRO is responsible for:
- promoting any technology and mechanism that contributes to development through the enhancement of the aquatic environment,
- ensuring scientific and technical information is disseminated among the various social, professional, and cultural circles concerned,
- contributing to training, to research, and through research,
- carrying out research, production, expertise, or consulting for the benefit of external partners, whether public or private, in its areas of competence.
The center has four (03) scientific departments: the Environment Department (DE), the Aquaculture Department (DA), the Living Aquatic Resources Department (DRAV), and one cross-cutting department: the Publications, Documentation, and Editions Department (DPED). These departments carry out research activities in the fields of the environment and productivity of aquatic ecosystems, the management of fisheries resources, and aquaculture.
