JCOMM/IODE Expert Team on Data Management Practices

Summary The Expert Team on Data Management Practices (JCOMM-I, 2001), in close collaboration with IODE and CBS subsidiary bodies and related experts, shall: (a) Develop, recommend and implement principles and practices for an end-to-end data management system for JCOMM; (b) Recommend the best data management practices for adoption by JCOMM and other related/dependent activities, in particular for: (i)Standards of metadata and formats; (ii)Quality control and data assembly; (iii)Data and product flow; (c) Review and assess the effectiveness of data management practices, including integration and consideration of new techniques and approaches; (d) Provide advice to the Data Management Coordination Group and other groups of JCOMM, as required, on data management practices; (e) In concurrence with the co-presidents of the Commission, propose the establishment of projects and task teams, as required and, if established, oversee them, including the GTSPP, in order to develop effective data management practices; (f) Develop documentation and guidance material and promote the adoption of JCOMM data management practices; (g) Liaise and collaborate with other groups, as needed, to ensure access to required expertise and appropriate coordination, and to avoid duplication. In accordance with the recommendation of IODE-XVII the Group of Experts on the Technical Aspects of Data Exchange (GETADE) has been merged with the JCOMM Expert Team on Data Management Practices. The main task of the GETADE work plan was to “develop an End-to-End Marine Data Management Framework”. This mission is in accord with the terms of reference of ETDMP.
