Summary | This document provides information on potential future requirements of the SOOP Implementation Panel, and on the following issues in particular: (i) The real-time and delayed-mode data transmission systems being used for the collection of SOOP data, including XBT data in particular; (ii) Limitations, cost effectiveness, format issues, the reporting of instrument/platform metadata; (iii) Data tracking and quality control issues; (iv) New technologies available to carry out the objectives of the SOOP; (v) How other programmes such as the SCOR OceanScope, the GO-SHIP, the Oleander Project, the IOCCP (pCO2 transects), and Argo programme, could cooperate with the SOOP and synergies developed; (vi) Biases of XBT data, how they can be estimated, and the data corrected; (vii) The inclusion of all XBT data in the World Ocean Atlas (WOA), including related requirements, and issues. |
