Activities
At WWF-Belgium (since October 2015), I am working on the sustainability of fisheries, on reducing the impact of our consumption on the fish stocks and the oceans worldwide and on a better protection of the marine biodiversity through influencing national, regional and international policy, working out and leading awareness campaigns and engaging in corporate partnerships.
At IMDC (September 2013-September 2015), I gained expertise in writing environmental impact assessments (EIA) for sand extraction (Blighbank), offshore wind farms (Mermaid and NW2) and the Belgian Offshore Grid (Elia Asset NV). I am also involved in the second progress report for the monitoring program “flexible deposit under the third expansion of the Scheldt”. Internationally, I am closely involved in the environmental and social impact analysis of a large project off the coast of Montevideo in Uruguay (Gas Sayago). Thanks to my academic background, I remain closely involved in all sorts of projects relating to the Belgian coast and coastal defense.
Skills
My PhD handled on the impact of beach nourishment on coastal ecosystems with recommendations for coastal policy in Belgium. I have an extended knowledge on impact assessments of nourishment projects, marine biological valuation and monitoring schemes. I was the leading scientist during beach and shallow subtidal sampling campaigns for all projects concerning Belgian beaches from 2008 until 2012 and she participated in multiple offshore campaigns in and around the Belgian offshore wind farms. I have an extensive knowledge of different sampling strategies and techniques for both abiotic and biotic parameters. I have been writing proposals, offers, reports and scientific articles and she has trained and supervised 10 Bachelor and Master students, studying Biology (Bachelor and Master), Master in Oceans and Lakes or International Master of Science in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation.
