Comment(s)
I am a driven and dedicated person. I have an honest
appreciation of applicable knowledge that can be used to better the conditions
of communities. I am looking for an opportunity to further my education in
order to develop my professional capacity to do more for my community.
I lead the Geographic Information System office of
CORALINA, the institution that administers UNESCO’s Seaflower Biosphere Reserve.
Seaflower is 350,000 Km2; it the largest Biosphere Reserve in the Caribbean and
one of the largest in the world. CORALINA has a small team of 32 people to
administer an area the size of Germany This makes the management of Seaflower a
challenge that requires the team of professionals to be updated on the most
efficient tools to provide decision makers then necessary information for them
to design and implement environmental policies.
My team and I are currently developing the beach management
plan for the island of San Andres (the largest of three inhabited islands in
Seaflower). We are also taking part in the processes of management and zoning
of the coastal zone on the island of San Andrés.
CORALINA has very limited resources. We rely heavily
on donors to protect this environmental jewel, and get the proper training to
do so effectively. I don’t only want to, but I need to attend this course. If invited to the course I will bring a
strong desire to learn new techniques to bring back to Seaflower. My greatest
goal is to continue to contribute to the sustainable development of Seaflower
from my field and the Ocean Teacher course provides an opportunity that I
cannot miss.
