I head a program of collaborative research that focuses on the disease ecology of marine vertebrates and the links to human health and conservation. I also chair the university IACUC. I have worked for the past three decades focusing on integrative research, transdisciplinarity, critical thinking and capacity building in over 25 countries. I cofounded the emerging discipline of Conservation Medicine, the journal EcoHealth and the International Association of Ecology and Health. My research has been instrumental in revealing the impact of emerging diseases of marine wildlife populations.
