Member of the DISS Working Group and co-worker for the Database of Individual Seismogenic Sources (contributing to geological input data for Italy’s national seismic hazard model); curator of the Composite Sources. Re-evaluation of seismic crises of the past few centuries in central and southern Italy. Appraisal of potential seismogenic sources of major historical and instrumental earthquakes, with emphasis on subsurface data, rupture complexities, and the spatial and chronological intersection between historical sources and landscape heritage.
Among the themes of interest:
- the interplay among multi-hazards, compounded risks, energy strategy, urban coastal safety, and Earth system complexities;
- terrain deformation due to permafrost thawing and effects on GHG;
- concomitant effects of urban pressure in coastal megacities, resource depletion, subsidence, and population exposure to the urban heat island effect in lowlands.

Appraisal of potential seismogenic sources from instrumental and historical seismicity, field and subsurface geology, landscape parameters, and displacement modeling. Geomorphological analysis of drainage basin evolution. Geometry and evolution of fault transfer zones.
Structural and geomorphological interpretation of air photos (including ortho-rectification), DEM, and optical satellite imagery. 3D analysis of fault displacement parameters.
Structural interpretation of analog sandbox models (rift and strike-slip). Regional extents and global distribution of margin-basin systems, their resource outlook, and energy/GHG storage potential.
Structural and stratigraphic interpretation of multichannel and VHR seismic reflection profiles. Interpretation of well logs and cuttings. Modeling of geo-acoustic parameters using underwater wide-angle seismic reflection data.

Assessment of fault input and seismic zonation for seismic hazard modeling.
Appraisal of the intersection among seismological, geological, and historical records to decipher shifting landscapes, ‘seismic memory’ inheritance, and human siting.
Evaluation of the accrued exposure and layered vulnerabilities of coastal environments (natural and built) to compounded hazards. Assessment of the systemic fragilities that affect cities and inhabitants exposed to novel heat levels caused by climate change; evaluation of the landscape control on the Urban Heat Island effect.
Assessment of the interplay among natural and anthropogenic multi-hazards, energy budget, geosphere-biosphere feedback, and physical complexities to address medium/long-term safety and relocation of the built environment.
Probing the geological contribution to climate change and GHG; geological contribution to CCS and associated hazards, and to evaluate resource intelligence (including non-Earth). Cross-disciplinary linkage with social, economic, and communication sciences.
