Activities
I have been studying and researching on fisheries science, sustainable fisheries, natural resource management. My first study on these topics is my undergraduate thesis on current fisheries management practices in Swordfish (Xiphias gladius) fisheries. During my master's degree in fishing technology, I decided to examine and analyze ten years of catch records of a purse seine vessel in the Aegean Sea. Along with biological changes such as sea salinity, temperature, different lunar phases, chlorophyll-a level, I record the changes in the amount of catch per unit effort over time from past to present. Revealing the change in the amount of catch per unit effort over time will help to complete the deficiencies in current fisheries management practices. I am also working as a researcher in a project to examine the catch units of different traps used in blue crab fishing. Blue crab (Callinectes sapidus), which is an alien invasive species in the Mediterranean, has a high commercial value in the world and in Turkey. Therefore, it has become a target species along the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. Therefore, research on the Blue Crab population and a catch management plan are needed. Analyzing the data obtained by comparing different trap types to determine the fishing effort and determining the most attractive bait for Blue Crab will shed light on the fisheries management of this species.
