Activities
Since 2014, I am a professor of Federal University of Rio Grande, in Rio Grande, Brazil, where I am the responsible of following disciplines: Water Resources Conservation, Watershed Management, Fundamentals of Soils, Soil Use and Management and Environmental Geology. I am also professor of Fundamentals of Geomorphology and Principles of Soil Science in the Geography Graduate Program. Since 2015, I am also work in the administrative area in the university as Campus Director at Federal University of Rio Grande, in São Lourenço do Sul city, Brazil.
Skills
During five years I was a member for of the Exceed Project (2015-2020), this project coordinated by the University of Braunschweig and integrate 29 universities and research centers around the world with the objective of promote capacity building, knowledge transfer and to develop core proposals for sustainable water management and adaptation to climate change.
Actually, I am also a committee member of Camaquã River Watershed, the watershed that surrounds the municipality area. In this committee, we are currently discussing a project to recover the stream banks that supplies drinking water to the city and, at the same time, is eventually responsible for floods, especially in the spring when the pluviometric index is high.
Now a dyas, I am too participating in a project, with national government, that aims at monitoring the soil and water quality in a watershed that provides the water to the city, that aims to monitor water quality and environmental management and restoration and maintenance of natural resources to improve the water quality that arrive in the city reservoir. This project aims also improve management of water resources and soil, incorporating planning aimed at adaptation to climate change, strengthen technical and institutional framework for the identification of water resources and soil under environmental risk (critical areas) and to propose solutions and plans to sustainable organic food production in these areas, for maintaining soil fertility, ensuring sustainable food production, as taking care of the soil is one of the bases of food sovereignty in these communities.
Actually, I am looking for greater knowledge about the management of risks and disasters such as landslides and flooding in urban areas, as well, drawing up plans and practices of analysis and prevention of occurrence of these extreme events. As I work with a multidisciplinary group in the committee, my information directed me to the studies development of environmental recovery plans and space management, seeking the degraded areas recovery and territory occupation management in coastal zone, especially to mitigate the food and landslides occurrence, rivers siltation and riverbanks degradation in this coastal areas.
