Ana Hilário is a deep-sea ecologist with 15 years of research experience. Her main expertise is in biodiversity, life-history traits and population connectivity with experience in different deep-sea ecosystems, including hydrothermal vents, cold seeps, seamounts and abyssal plains in different geographic regions (Atlantic, Pacific, Antarctica, Mediterranean, Gulf of Mexico). Currently A. Hilário is interested in developing research to that will provide the necessary data to inform ecosystem-based management of areas targeted for seabed mining.
A. Hilário has experience in a variety of tasks including life-history analyses, species descriptions and molecular phylogenies and deep-sea sampling and in situ experimentation using manned and un-manned submersibles as well as traditional sampling gear (e.g. box-and multicorer and MOCNESS nets), and proven expertise in project management and established international network of contacts.
