With a Phd in architecture composition (Iuav-Venice) I am a Senior Lecturer at the School of Architecture and a researcher at the Institute for Coastal and Marine Research (CMR) at Nelson Mandela University (SA). My research has a particular focus on the coastal tangible and intangible heritage of the First Indigenous Peoples of South Africa: The Khoi San. Since 2017 I document and analyze the fish traps located along the Eastern Cape of South Africa,- sites that were undocumented-. The research that I lead in co-authorship with the Khoi San Peoples resident in the vicinity of Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and aided by staff and students at Nelson Mandela University is based on a multidisciplinary approach and engagement with the Indigenous community. My contribution is to have a better understanding of the IKS values related to those marine ecology infrastructures, preserve them, internationally, because they can help to achieve sustainable developments of the coast.
This research culminated in the recently published book in co-authorship with the KhoiSan "The Spirit of Water Practices of cultural re appropriation. Indigenous heritage sites along the coast of the Eastern Cape-South Africa" by Florence University Press. https://fupress.com/catalogo/the-spirit-of-water-/6108
