Activities
The JNHT is a statutory agency within the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, and is located at Headquarters House, 79 Duke Street, Kingston. The JNHT has the legal mandate to protect the nation’s material cultural heritage by declaring a site a national monument or by designating a site as protected national heritage. There are several sites across Jamaica that are owned and managed by the JNHT. The JNHT has a highly qualified team with expertise in Archaeology, Estate Management and Business Development, Public Education, Public Relation and Communications, that is supported by the Legal Unit and Corporate Services Division; and are all spearheaded by the Executive Office, led by the Executive Director. The Executive Director has direct reporting relationship to the Board of Trustees, which is constituted of fifteen (15) members from the private and public sectors.
Our Mission Statement is to “inspire a sense of national pride through the promotion, preservation, and development of our material cultural heritage, utilizing a highly motivated and qualified team in conjunction with all our partners.”
