The College of Marine Sciences was established in 2016-2017 under the letter of the Ministry/Department of Studies, Planning and Follow-up/Studies and Planning No. TM 3/3/4129 dated 9/8/2016 as the first college in Iraq in its field of specialization. The main objective of its establishment was to prepare scientific cadres specialized in studying various aspects of marine sciences. The college also seeks to conduct studies and research related to the reality of the Iraqi marine environment and ways to develop fish wealth and natural resources and protect them from pollution and achieve optimal utilization of marine resources and develop strategic marine studies for their importance to the public good. It consists of two departments:
Department of Applied Marine Sciences: It is concerned with the study of marine physics, marine geology and marine chemistry
Department of Natural Marine Sciences: It is concerned with the study of marine biology and aquaculture
