From 29 to 31 January 2013 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, the IMS/REMP Promotion and Awareness Workshop will be held. The main theme of the meeting is data and information, as an essential basis for decision making and governance. Noting the importance of this issue for the region and taking into account that the workshop only allows for a limited number of people to participate, it is the intention to transmit the presentations of this workshop life via Internet in the form of a Webcast. In this way, more people in the region can profit from the contents of the event. Please note that the quality of the life transmission depends upon the availability and speed of the Internet during the event, and of course on the speed of your own Internet connection. During the workshop, the IMS/REMP mechanism will be presented in detail, and the participants will receive a condensed training in the use of IMS. Furthermore, the participants will have ample opportunity to work on line with the beta version of IMS (wireless Internet available during the workshop). The intention is to obtain feedback from users, which can be used to improve the performance of the IMS. The workshop will also include a number of presentations on issues related to the management of data and information on ecosystems and environment, in an effort to strengthen and harmonize data and information mechanisms in the countries and at regional level.
