The "Deepening the Decade" workshop, held during the recent DOOS Accelerator meeting, established an ambitious goal to double the amount of deep-ocean data that is discoverable and openly accessible online each year. A key focus was the value of biodiversity data in the Ocean Biodiversity Information System (OBIS), particularly its potential for multiple uses and reuses when integrated with environmental data and other diverse sources, such as acoustics, imaging, animal tracking, and biologging. This session will ask, "How can we double the amount of deep-ocean biodiversity data reaching OBIS by 2030?" It will provide an overview of the current resources and training available for biodiversity data, while also exploring gaps, needs, and barriers to data submission. The session will gather community input to develop a collaborative plan to address the growing demand for deep-ocean biodiversity knowledge, which is essential for informing both national and international sustainable development and conservation efforts.
