Annual consultation between UNESCO-IOC and Indonesian Agency for Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics (BMKG) to approve by consensus the 2026 IOTIC work plan and review any other matter relating to the impactful implementation of the cooperation.

On 27 June 2017, UNESCO-IOC and BMKG signed a partnership agreement to support the sustainability of IOTIC and the implementation of IOTIC projects and activities. 

The Indian Ocean Tsunami Information Centre (IOTIC) of IOC/UNESCO operates under the overall authority of the Executive Secretary of UNESCO/IOC. The day-to-day management of IOTIC is done by the UNESCO Office Jakarta in close coordination with the Tsunami Unit in UNESCO/IOC and the UNESCO/IOC Secretariat of the Intergovernmental Coordination Group of Indian Ocean Tsunami Warning and Mitigation System (ICG/IOTWMS Secretariat).

The goal of IOTIC is to assist the UNESCO/IOC and the ICG/IOTWMS and its Secretariat by providing support to the Indian Ocean countries and at-risk communities in tsunami risk reduction through capacity building on tsunami hazard, awareness, preparedness, education, and mitigation measures.
