ODINCARSA Latin America Strategic Planning Meeting
Summary
The objective of this meeting will be to re-establish ODINCARSA's network of partners in Latin America and to draft a work plan for the next 4 years related to ocean data management and marine information (library management). El objetivo de esta reunión será el de restablecer la red ODINCARSA de socios en América Latina y elaborar un plan de trabajo para los próximos 4 años en relación con la gestión de datos e información oceanográficos marinos (gestión de bibliotecas)

- 7. - 7. DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONAL AND REGIONAL ODINCARSA OCEAN DATA AND INFORMATION WORK PLANS 2010-2013
Based upon (2), (3) and (6) the meeting will prepare detailed ODINCARSA work plans for ocean data management and for marine information management. The work plans will focus on (i) harmonization of used methods and standards in ocean data and information management; (ii) development of regional data/information products and services; (iii) capacity building requirements. Special attention should be given to a user-driven approach. In addition the meeting will be requested to decide on a management structure for the next phase of ODINCARSA. To discuss these matters in more detail sessional working groups will be established. These may be based upon sub-regions or thematic areas. The groups will meet Tuesday 8 December (pm) and Wednesday 9 December (am). The sessional groups will be moderated by the 2 regional coordinators and/or IOC staff. - 7.1. - Composition of the sessional working groups

- 4. - DESIGNATION OF ODINCARSA REGIONAL COORDINATORS
The meeting will be invited to designate one ODINCARSA regional coordinator for oceanographic data management and one ODINCARSA regional coordinator for marine information management. - 5. - REPORTS ON NATIONAL AND REGIONAL OCEAN/COASTAL RESEARCH, OBSERVATIONS AND MANAGEMENT PROGRAMMES (AND RELATED DATA AND INFORMATION MANAGEMENT ACTIVITIES)
Each participating country will be invited to provide a brief report on the main ocean research and observation programmes, coastal area management or marine spatial planning initiatives that are carried out in their country (or at least in their institution). Secondly the report should detail the current national arrangements related to the management and dissemination of data and information in their country. This may include information on one or more national data centres (including NODC), marine libraries, and their networking at the national level. Thirdly the report should address the medium-term results expected from the ongoing ocean research and observation programmes and what will be the expected related data and information output. It is noted that not all countries were able to identify participants for both data and information management for the workshop. Where only one participant was designated he/she is requested to present information on both topics (data management and information management) after careful national consultation with all relevant national stakeholders. EACH COUNTRY PRESENTATION SHOULD NOT BE LONGER THAN 10 MINUTES

This may be based upon the data management plans of the ocean projects/activities that will be implemented during 2010-2013 or it may be extracted from project documents of national or regional projects in which national institutions are involved.
