Activities
Current work: African manatee (Trichechus senegalensis) research (surveys, telemetry/tracking, genetics, stable isotope), training for African biologists and capacity building in 18 African countries. Previous work includes research with Florida and Antillean manatees, Hawaiian monk seals, grey, harbor and harp seals, elephant seals, sperm whales, small cetaceans, and five penguin species.
Skills
marine mammal boat and aerial surveys, photo identification, capture, biomedical assessment (blood draws, ultrasound, etc.), necropsies, behavioral fieldwork, construction, deployment and recovery of GPS/PTT/VHF/sonic tracking equipment, data analysis, training of field techniques to others, and public education/outreach activities
