Dr. Guimei Liu, deputy director of the marine environmental forecasting division, is a full research professor at the National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center, State Oceanic Administration People’s Republic of China. She received PhD from the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Qingdao, China, followed by a postdoctoral researcher to young scientist at the University of Maine, USA. Her research interests include: the development of the operational ocean forecasting systems and applications in oil spills, search and rescue, chemical accidents, red/green tides, and other marine emergencies in China coastal areas; coupled physical-biogeochemical marine ecosystem modeling; promoting data assimilation methodology to varied routine sources of information in operational ocean forecasting systems. Dr Liu is an expert of PICES S-CCME group (Section on Climate Change Effects on Marine Ecosystems), a member of work group 27 (North Pacific Climate Variability and Change), and a member of GODAE OceanView COSS TT (Coastal Ocean and Shelf Seas Task Team).
