Working in Aquatic Parasitology with an emphasis on species having an economic impact in aquaculture. Principal studies have focused on a range of aquatic parasites and particularly copepod parasites of fish. Main species of interest are Lepeophtheirus salmonis and Caligus elongatus parasitising marine farmed salmonids in the northern hemisphere. Amoebic Gill Disease (AGD) and Desmozoon lepeophtheirii are also topics of recent research. Principal area of investigation is Scotland although problems in Ireland, Norway and Iceland have also been studied. Work includes epizootiology, physiology, morphology, ultrastructure, endocrinology, pathology, integrated pest management.
