Job functions

1. Data collation: I spearhead the marine team in data curation including of data collection, analysis, dissemination and storage. Data regimes include fish Catch Assessment Survey, sea turtle and BY-Catch Assessment and Mitigation in Western Indian Ocean Fisheries along Lamu Seascape. .
2. Data analysis and visualisation : Currently building my expertise on the use of tableau software which enables great visualization of data, promoting interactive feedback sessions with the community and partnering stakeholders on resource status.
3. Turtle conservation work: In collaboration with Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) and the community I have partaken in nest verification, monitoring, translocation, sea turtle tagging and hatchling release activities in 21 beaches within Kiunga Marine Protected Area.
4. Spear head field activities: This has involved development of concept notes and budgets, activity administration, handling logistical aspects and reporting.
5. Promoting sustainable fisheries through promoting fisheries co-management, habitat and stock monitoring. .
6. Livelihood diversification and climate change mitigation through establishment of Village Saving and Loan Association (VSLAs) in villages within Lamu Seascape. Formation of community groups involved in savings and loan takings which promotes creation of business enterprises curbing over-reliance on marine resources.
