Sidónio Machaieie is a Marine Biologist and lecturer at the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Lúrio University since 2016 in the disciplines of Fisheries Resources, Aquaculture and Introduction to Geographic Information System in the undergraduate courses in Biological Sciences and Natural Resource Management. Develops and participates in various expeditions, research and extension work linked to biodiversity, ecology and conservation of marine and coastal resources, but is also involved in fisheries management activities and underwater monitoring. He is Associate Director for Graduate Studies, Research and Extension of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and member of WIOMSA.
Skills
Advanced degree in marine biology or a related subject;
Underwater survey techniques for coral, seagrass and fish;
Understand, study and promote the sustainable use of biodiversity;
Knowledge and demonstrable experience about data processing, evaluation and organizing the collection, storage, usage and visualization of geographic data;
Proficiency with GIS software and tools (ArcGIS and Quantum GIS);
Advanced proficiency in office packages (including Open source programs and operating systems; Basic proficiency
in differen t statistical packa ge (such as SPSS, R);
Design and execution of research projects. Scientific reporting. Field data collection. Environmental monitoring (planning and execution);
Experience in SCUBA diving, preferably in remote areas in Mozambique;
Good interpersonal communication and coordination skills;
Good organization with strong analytical skills, paying attention to details and understanding the environment and respect for the local culture.
