Activities
I hold an Msc. degree in hydrobiology:Fisheries Resource Management from the University of Nairobi. Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Applied Marine Environmental Studies at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology. My expected date of graduation in September, 2024. My research is on marine microplastic (MP) pollution with specific interest on the interaction of the MPs. with marine benthic invertebrates. As a marine specialist and a fish lover, I'm concerned about the effects the MPs may have on marine fauna as well as on humans through trophic transfers.
My interest in deep sea, seagrasses, and mangrove forest MP. pollution because of the high diversity of organisms inhabiting these systems which could potentially be impacted by MPs. Also, most research on MP pollution has been performed on intertidal organisms, and very few studies have focussed on the deep sea.
My previous roles as a lecturer, at Siaya Institute of Technology and an intern at the National Museums of Kenya and the National Environment Management, have sharpened my understanding of aquaculture, fisheries management, and environmental conservation. Through these positions, I acquired excellent skills in concept note writing, data collection, species data management, environmental impact, environmental audit, and data analysis using the SPSS, and R software.
Given a chance, I will maximize my skills and talent to ensure that the institution's targets and goals are met efficiently.
Skills
I have skills in teamwork, critical and innovative thinking, data collection and analysis. I also possess excellent observational and presentation skills. I am good with computer packages such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Adobe PageMaker, and Powerpoint.
Comment(s)
As a fishery manager, I believe that this training will advance my GIS skills , and help me contribute effectively to management issues aimed at addressing the growing pollution concern that affects fishery resources.
