Skills
Physical oceanographer at the Middle East Technical University Institute of Marine Sciences, specializing in the formation, variability, and circulation of Levantine Intermediate Water (LIW) in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Research combines high-resolution hydrodynamic modeling and multi-decadal numerical simulations to investigate thermohaline processes, water-mass formation, and regional circulation dynamics. Work is based primarily on the Nucleus for European Modelling of the Ocean (NEMO) framework, supported by observational validation using ARGO profiles, satellite products, and in situ oceanographic datasets.
Expertise includes large-scale oceanographic data analysis, NetCDF processing, MATLAB- and Python-based scientific workflows, and advanced diagnostics for understanding ocean circulation and water-mass variability. Sea-going experience includes participation in oceanographic research cruises, , AUV deployment, hydrographic sampling, CTD operations, and the collection and processing of in situ observational data across regional seas.
Additional background includes an MSc in Sustainable Environment and Energy Systems from METU and a BSc in Computer Engineering, supporting expertise in scientific computing, numerical modeling, and data-driven ocean research.
