Activities
Since 2018 I work as the coordinator of a research project in the Galápagos Islands. The project focuses in understanding the role of temperature on herbivory intensity and algae biomass in upwelling systems and is conducted by Dr. John Bruno and Dr. Margarita Brandt; both faculty members of The University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill and USFQ respectively. My activities include collecting, managing and processing data for the project, writing reports, managing all type of logistics for dive field trips and writing sections of research articles and research permits, managing the inventory and stock of
supplies and giving maintenance to laboratory equipment.
Comment(s)
Since June 2020, as the corresponding author, I have been editing a manuscript titled ´Local conditions influence thermal sensitivity of pencil urchin populations (Eucidaris galapagensis) in the Galápagos archipelago´, which is already under consideration for publication by the journal Marine Biology. Additionally, I am co-authoring on a ms on preparation about species-specific thermal sensitivity in a trait-based approach in the Galápagos marine ecosystem. Because of the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, all the fieldwork in the Archipelago has been paused. Unable to perform fieldtrips, I have been working remotely for the past four months analyzing fish benthic surveys recorded from previous fieldwork. Until the Galapagos National Park Directorate gives authorization for scientific trips, which is expected to happen next year, I have full availability from September the 14th until the end of December 2020 to participate in this GIS course.
