Skills
Oceanographer at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA) and Master's degree in Oceanography at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). I am currently a Ph.D. student in Aquatic Ecology and Fisheries at UFPA. I am a plastic pollution researcher with published studies on plastic contamination in oceanic islands and beaches. I have experience on environmental education and I am a speaker on the use and consumption of plastics and their impacts on the environment.
I was volunteered on extension projects about marine litter and scalping in riverside and coastal communities on the Amazonian coast of Pará during my undergraduate. Then, I became a scholarship student at PPZCA (Amazon Coastal Zone Protection Program) for almost 1 year. Also, I and some other students of the course created the Lixo Zero project, which served to raise awareness among the population about the inappropriate use and disposal of waste in Belém (PA). Thus, I started my studies on contamination by plastics in the aquatic environment.
In 2016, I studied plastic pollution in oceanic islands in the Atlantic, including Fernando de Noronha Island. I published all the results in international scientific journals. I did scientific communication to the local media and participated in public events discussing the topic.
Currently, I have been studying plastic pollution in the Brazilian Amazon. In addition to the scientific challenges in the Amazon region, I have been seeking to integrate science with the social issues experienced by the Amazonian population. Therefore, I have participated in interdisciplinary events to improve my skills, such as the Ocean Decade workshop in Brazil and the Water Innovation Lab Brazil. Also, I integrate the Microplastic Study Group in the Amazon (GEMA) and Microplastix financed by JPI Oceans and Facepe. Recently, I was named Young Atlantic Ambassador for the All-Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance (AANCHOR).
