Biologist graduated from the University of Zulia Currently, he is a Ph.D. Candidate in Ecology at the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research, student at the Laboratory of Paleontology. His doctoral thesis is focused on the study of the evolution of shark nursery areas in Venezuela. Recognized expertise in aquatic ecology with an emphasis on sharks, endangered species, and wildlife trafficking. He did internships at the Molecular Biodiversity Laboratory of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and studied for regional biodiversity management in Nagoya, Japan (JICA-Nagoya University). Director of the Shark Research Center, founder of the international education program Caribbean Sharks, and coordinator of the Venezuelan Whale Shark Conservation Project. Has been invited by the IUCN Sustainable Use and Livelihoods specialist group for helping to stop the trade in shark fins. Is a founding member of Venezuelan Network of Professionals for Nature (AKEHE). Invited researcher to the project on estimating the abundance of river dolphins in South America (SARDI). Co-author of 14 scientific papers on understanding the ecology and conservation of freshwater sharks and cetaceans, including the National Action Plan for the Conservation of Freshwater Mammals and the National Action Plan for Sharks.
