Gelson Monteiro is a biologist, graduated in Biological Sciences from the Faculty of Sciences and Technologies of the University of Cape Verde. He completed a specialization in Environmental Management at the Unypública Faculty in Brazil, and obtained a master's degree in Interfaces between Science, Policies and Practices on Biodiversity, Ecosystem Services and Climate Change (SPIBES), within the scope of the international CABES program, at the Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny, in Ivory Coast.
Currently, he is a doctoral student in Biology at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of the Azores, where he develops research activities focused on the elaboration of socio-ecological models oriented towards the optimization of the management of Protected Areas in Cape Verde. His work articulates interdisciplinary approaches in biodiversity, ecosystem services and climate change, focusing on the science-policy-practice interface and on strengthening sustainability in island systems.
