Activities
Biodiversity provides and important pool of species
in ecosystems and its link with productivity and disturbance has been a central
issue in ecology. I am a benthic ecologist aiming a better understanding of the
relationships between benthic biodiversity and ecosystem functions in large areas of Argentina (Southwestern Atlantic) subjected to human impacts. These large ecosystems are the ground for many bottom-trawl fisheries and
human-mediated introduction of exotic species. These impacts are not only
altering biodiversity but also ecosystem services, so a successful management
of marine ecosystems will depend on our ability to understand and predict these
changes. Natural variability of these ecosystems adds complexity to the
scenario, so I am working in a multidisciplinary group to allow multiple
approaches to the task. I use field experiments, broad scale surveys
and theory to address natural and anthropogenic variability.
