Activities
Environmental Field Work/ Data Collection: Spent 10 days at sea aboard the research vessel Ángeles Alvariño collecting biological, chemical, and physical data and samples to better understand and characterize the submarine volcanic environment surrounding the Canary Islands.
Lab Management/ Work: Collected, isolated and grew bacterial cultures using advanced microbiological standard work to ensure data viability.
Data Management/ Data Analysis: Processed large genetic datasets for bioinformatic and ecological analysis to understand the abundance and diversity of microbial community surrounding the sub-marine volcano ``Tagoro.''
Data Visualization: Transformed data insights into visual dashboards that effectively communicated findings.
Technical Writing/ Scientific Communications: Synthesized findings into a comprehensive thesis report including literature review on relevant topics, which was defended in front of a panel of peers, marine microbiology scientific experts, and various non-scientific audience members. Time Management and Project Management: Self regulated and managed project including lab work and data analysis to ensure timeline and project objectives were accomplished at key intervals to ensure timely completion of the required report.
