He is a graduate of The Marine Science Institute, University of the Philippines-Diliman with a degree in MS Marine Science (Marine Biology) and currently working as a Faculty/Researcher at the Department of Biological Sciences-Visayas State University (DBS-VSU). He also handles courses under the marine biology program which includes Oceanography, Marine Pollution; and Marine Microbiology and Fungi. In the field of research, he is currently a study leader of a university-funded project entitled “Development of a Tropical Ecosystem Health Scorecard” with a focus on water quality monitoring and pollution load estimation. In addition, he is the extension project leader of the “VSU Multispecies Hatchery Project” for upgrading facilities and capacity building to enhance hatchery production.
He also worked for 10 years as a Research Associate of nationally-funded projects and programs. Under a DA (Department of Agriculture) funded project, he worked closely with the culture and production of commercially-important sea cucumber, Holothuria scabra, and other echinoderms. He also supported DOST (Department of Science and Technology) funded projects, such as "Enhancing Sea Cucumber Production” and “Early Warning System for Philippine Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs)” with the aim of managing and conserving high-valued sea cucumber resources; and developing detection and mitigation measures for harmful algal blooms (HABs) in the Philippines.
