Activities
After finishing the PhD thesis on environmental chemistry addressing air and water pollution, I have spent the last two years and a half learning the basics of marine ecology within the Mar Menor lagoon and the Mediterranean Sea by: a) designing and performing sampling campaigns of shallow waters; b) setting up and employing chromatographic methods to measure toxin and pigment levels in the water and cell cultures, as well as understanding their accumulation dynamics; c) forecasting and tracking potentially harmful algae blooms mainly due to Pseudo-nitzschia and Dinophysis sp.
Sea regions of study
Mediterranean Sea - Western Basin
Skills
Gas/liquid chromatography; mass spectrometry and diodo array detection; analytical chemistry techniques for cell culturing, pollutant, toxins and pigments extraction; design and performance of active and passive sampling methodologies.
